I remember a story that my mother used to tell me about her own mother who, due to the necessity of poverty, used to wander the streets of London’s East End* looking for money that had been dropped on the ground. Apparently she often got lucky (if lucky is the right word).

Those rose-tinted Thatcherite fools, who look back at mythical ‘good old days’, can go stuff themselves. The fact that the UK now has food banks, to feed an increasingly growing population who can’t afford the basics of life, is the continuation of a moral crime that shows no sign of being addressed.

Anyway, these photos are just two of many that I like, for the fact that they show an upward view, despite being seen from the ground. It’s not the same as finding money, but it’s still a view found at street level, which hopefully has some meaning, or even value.

* Actually, if memory serves me correctly, she actually used to wander the streets of rich areas. Who leaves money on the ground in poor areas?
