Photography is supposed to be about light – its reflection and capture. All loaded words, of course. And photographers have been quoted talking about light for as long as photographic processes have been around. Stieglitz, for example; “Wherever there is light, one can photograph”.
I’ve been interested in shadows for a while. Shadows being a by-product of light, I suppose. A kind of anti-light. They can enhance the capture of the built environment.
But they also allow us to view the environment from alternate perspectives.
Or impose upon that environment.
Sometimes shadows are so dominant, that they become normative, with light representing the other.
