Most attributing this to the rise of camera phones \u2013 in particular the iPhone.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->The images from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/artanddesign\/2013\/dec\/13\/death-of-photography-camera-phones\" target=\"_blank\">this Guardian article<\/a> are particularly interesting, in their almost situationist style rendering of &#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Society_of_the_Spectacle\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">the society of the spectacle<\/a>&#8216;.<\/p>\n<p>Now, I probably never really fully understood everything about those theories but I suspect that what we have now is probably a step beyond that. People are not merely consuming visual manifestations of &#8216;the spectacle&#8217; anymore. We have now become, not only active participants, but also creative producers of the spectacular. And even <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2013\/dec\/10\/nelson-mandela-world-leaders-selfie\" target=\"_blank\">world leaders<\/a> are at it.<\/p>\n<p>From the &#8216;<em>selfie<\/em>&#8216; to the &#8216;<em>mass democratisation<\/em>&#8216; of photography, camera phones (and the language used to discuss photographic reproduction) appear to have changed the way in which the captured image is created, consumed and interacted with.<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There have been many &#8216;end of photography&#8217; style articles which attributing this to the rise of camera phones \u2013 especially the iPhone.
